As I reflect back on 20 years of experience as a thriving professional designer, these are the attributes that I have learned set me apart:
I am always learning. My curiosity enables my creative mind to expand into new ways of thinking and innovating. I love the organic nature of the initial discovery and conceptual phases of the design process where the curious mind lives and is essential to morph good ideas into great ones. Engaging the client in this initial process sparks even stronger ideas and usually ends in a superior final product that we built together.
I am a present listener. I go beyond just receiving the words of my clients and colleagues. I aspire to understand them intently and empathically so that I can bring to life the spaces and experiences in their imaginations. When I blend that with my years of experience designing solutions that are functional, memorable and aesthetically pleasing, it often manifests as a win-win for everyone.
I love collaborating on a team. Connecting to others and with a community excites me by being a part of something bigger than myself. I am at my best when I know I am making an impact whether it is local or global.
I started at a young age drawing, painting and creating. In high school I landed a job at an amusement park to draw caricatures over the summers. That experience continues to be invaluable to me as a professional whose work is always subject to public critique! In 2001 I graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art with a major in industrial design and a minor in interior architecture. Since then I have built a successful career working in multiple disciplines of design. I have worked across the spectrum from product design to retail and then to exhibit/environmental design mostly focusing on branded experiences. I believe that a diverse set of skills with a multidisciplinary approach to design helps me to redefine design projects based on new perspectives.
A few fun facts about myself: I grew up in Cleveland, OH, moved to Atlanta, GA for a decade and then settled in beautiful Colorado in 2007. My reverence for nature is a constant source of inspiration and I seek it out daily through snowboarding, paddle boarding, mountain biking, hiking, camping, and watching the beauty in the change of seasons.
